Ch. Clos des Jacobins St Emilion Grand Cru Classe 1964

Merlot from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 25-Feb-2013
A good vintage on the Right Bank. Very dark, deep, ruby-red with a dark heart, a little lighter on rim, surprisingly youthful. This has a very firm, solidly concentrated bouquet with aromas of ripe black and dark red fruits, infused woth complex earth and tobacco notes. Full-bodied, the palate features plenty of savoury, earthy black fruit flavours, along with tobacco and hints of game, and the aromas of the woods and forest. This has some fruit sweetness, enhanced by fairly racy acidity, framed by significant tannin extraction and structure. The mouthfeel is grainy and dry, with mouthfilling textures. This has robustness and a degree of rusticity and a firm core and drive, and appears as though it will hold for another decade. 17.5+/20 Feb 2013
