Ceres ‘Composition’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 14-Nov-2011
Clones 6, 777 and 115 from the ‘Inlet' vineyard and clones 5 and 115 from the ‘Black Rabbit' site in Cairnmuir Road, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in French oak. Winemaker Matt Dicey. Even ruby-red colour with good depth, a little lighter on rim. This has a soft, intense nose with good concentration of savoury dark red berry fruits complexed by subtle herb notes and balanced oak spices. A touch of reduction shows but dissipates revealing some mushroomy notes. Medium full-bodied, there is good weight and presence, with soft dark red fruit flavours along with dried herb and spice elements adding interest. The wine has a fleshiness and supple tannins and fine textures, along with fresh acid liveliness carrying through to a long, spicy finish. Soft and fleshy, but with lively acidity, this has good savoury fruit richness to match Mediterranean red meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 17.5+/20 Nov 2011 RRP $37.00 www.cereswines.co.nz
