Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 09-Aug-2015
☆☆☆☆☆
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on rim. This has a full, vinous nose, the fruit initially a little shy in expression, but showing a good core of ripe blackberry and dark raspberry fruit entwined with subtle thyme herb and savoury stalk and stem whole cluster complexities. The aromatics grow in depth and density in the glass. Medium-full bodied, rich, fulsome and mouthfilling flavours of ripe, dark red berry fruit are melded with savoury thyme herb and whole bunch detail. The palate has well-balanced structure and textures to meet the fruit sweetness, and fresh acidity lends liveliness and energy. The tannins and the acidity carry the raspberry an herb flavours to a solid, long and sustained finish. This is a rich and flavoursome Pinot Noir with subtle herbal complexities and positive structure. Match with roast lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-8 years. 66% clone 777 from the ‘Inlet’ vineyard with 15% 115, 10% Abel and 9% clone 5 from the ‘Black Rabbit’ and ‘Full Circle’ vineyards, Bannockburn, indigenous yeast fermented with approx. 15% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine spending around 28 days on skins and aged 12 months in 30% new French oak barriques. 18.5-/20 Aug 2015 RRP $38.00
