Catherine’s Block Waipara Valley Tempranillo 2011

Tempranillo from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 26-Feb-2013
Moderately deep ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. This has an elegant bouquet with subtly lifted aromas of savoury red berry fruits intermixed with sweet oak and soft, cedary spices. This is identifiably varietal Tempranillo in expression. Medium-full bodied, soft and savoury red berry fruits, cedar and oak flavours feature on palate. While moderately extracted with fine tannin grip and balanced acidity, there is firm, underlying alcohol drive and power that carries the flavours to a spicy, oaky finish. This is an elegantly fruited, but fine textured Tempranillo with spices and cedary flavours and noticeable alcoholic power. Match with slow-cooked red meats over the next 4-5+ years. Clone 776 Tempranillo from Rioja, vines planted in 2010 in the ‘Limeloader' block, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in 60% new French oak. 100 cases made. 16.5+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $32.99
