Catherine’s Block Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 27-Mar-2016
Moderately dark ruby-red colour with light purple hues, lighter on the rim. This nose is elegantly concentrated with aromas of dark red berry fruits and black cherries, lifted by spice and violet floral elements, unfolding subtle dark herb, resinous oak and minerally reductive nuances. Medium-bodied, the palate is fine in concentration with a core of dark red berryfruit and black cherries, entwined with subtle violet floral and herbal elements. The fruit is sweet, enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity, and supple tannins provide a gentle, textured mouthfeel. This is quite accessible, and some alcoholic power carrying the wine to a long, lingering finish of cherries, herbs and florals. This is an elegantly concentrated Pinot Noir with dark cherry fruit and a fresh, supple mouthfeel. Match with poultry, pork and Asian fare over the next 3-4 years. Single vineyard wine, from Davis and Dijon clones, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 25% new French oak barriques. 100 cases made. 17.5/20 Mar 2016 RRP $20.00
