Catherine’s Block Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Mar-2015
Davis and Dijon clone fruit, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine on skins 7-10 days post ferment and aged 18 months in 25% new French oak. Dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on rim. The nose is full with ripe, savoury dark raspberry and plummy fruit aromas along with complexing herb, earth and nutty oak nuances, all harmoniously entwined and complete in proportion. Medium-full bodied, rich and lush, ripe raspberry and plum flavours show with layers of savoury spice, herbs, liquorice and nutty oak. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction and structure, with lacy acidity providing good energy and drive. The textures and grip carry the fruit to a moderately long finish. This is a rich, savoury, complex detailed Pinot Noir with good grainy structure and drive. Match with lamb, beef and game meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 130 cases made. 18.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $26.99
