Catherine’s Block Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Mar-2015
Clones 2/15 and Lincoln Berry Smith, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 7 g/L RS, the wine spending 4 months on lees. Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of blush. The bouquet is light and initially shy, but opens in volume to show ripe aromatic yellow stonefruits along with floral notes, and subtle nuances of stonefruit kernels, nuts and minerally lees. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits are restrained in expression, but reveal floral and nutty detail. This has a degree of richness, warmth and a rounded mouthfeel, the palate possessing good weight and presence. The palate had lively underlying acid drive, carrying the flavours to a mellow, easy finish. This is an off-dry Pinot Gris with stylish, ripe stonefruit flavours and good mouthfeel and presence. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. 700 cases made. 17.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $18.99
