Catherine’s Block ‘Six Barrels’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 26-Feb-2013
Davis and Dijon clones from the ‘Mount Brown' vineyard, fully destemmed and given a cold soak, and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine on skins 10 days and aged in 30% new French oak barriques. This is a selection of the 6 best barrels. Full, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant and finely penetrating with aromas of dark cherry fruit, dark herbs and hints of red liquorice, revealing a little nutty, resinous oak. Medium-full bodied, tightly bound and moderately firm, concentrated flavours of dark berry fruits and spicy oak form a dense core. The tannins are firm, but fine, and along with lively, brisk acidity, the palate has linearity that leads to a dry, restrained finish. This is a tightly constructed and moderately firm Pinot Noir with dark fruits and spicy oak. Serve with Middle Eastern inspired red meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 17.0+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $32.99
