Catherine’s Block ‘Barrique Ferment’ Waipara Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 26-Feb-2013
Bright, very pale straw yellow colour with slight green hues, pale edged. The nose is fresh with gently full aromas of bright gooseberry fruit with delicate nettle and fresh herbal elements. Oaking is imperceptible. Dry to taste, restrained flavours of gooseberry and nettle-like fruit flow smoothly on a very fine-textured palate. The mouthfeel is poised between softness and subtle, crisp acidity, and there is good energy that carries the flavours to a delicate, grainy and dry finish. This is a gentle, cool-spectrum gooseberry fruited Sauvignon Blanc with soft textures. Match with Mediterranean fare over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from two parcels from the ‘Limeloader' vineyard, one tank fermented and the other in old French barriques with batonnage, to 12.5% alc. and 4.5 g/L rs. Winemaker: Simon McGeorge. 1,000 cases made. 16.5+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $19.99
