Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2009

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 17-Jun-2014
Dark, deep, black-hued garnet-red colour with some bricking on rim. The bouquet is elegant with ethereal perfumes of savoury cherry and berry fruit along with fine complexing layers of game, dried herbs and earth, with hints of leather. The aromatics unfold to reveal a dense core with concentration. Medium-full bodied and elegant in presentation, tightly bound flavours of subtly luscious, savoury red berry fruits, earth, dried herbs, smoke and leather are encased by fine-grained, powdery tannins. This has concentration and linear drive, with soft, integrated acidity. The extraction becomes prominent through the mid-palate, carrying the earthy, leathery flavours to a dry and moderately sustained, slender finish. This is a relatively elegant Brunello with complex, leathery fruit and fine-grained structure. Match with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 8-10 years. 100% Sangiovese from estate vineyards in Montalcino, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins 10-12 days, and aged 2 years in 90% French oak barriques and 10% in Slavonian casks. 18.0/20 Jun 2014 RRP $70.00
