Caruso and Minini ‘Terre di Giumara’ Terre Siciliane Nero d’Avola IGT 2013

Other Red from Italy - Other
Review Date : 20-Oct-2015
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full and softly rich with ripe dark red berry and savoury plum fruit aromas entwined with earth, tar and cedary notes, unfolding nuances of chocolate. The aromatics are harmoniously packed, and show some robustness. Medium-full bodied, this is fulsome and well-concentrated with mouthfilling flavours of ripe, savoury dark red berry and plum fruit, intermixed with earth, liquorice, chocolate and cedary notes. The fruit is encased by grainy, drying tannins that lend a textured mouthfeel. Low acidity contributes to the rounded, gutsy presence, and the wine leads to a dry, lingering finish of savoury game, earth and cedar. This is a soft, densely packed, fulsome and robust Nero d'Avola with dry, grainy textures. Serve with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 4+ years. Nero d’Avola from the ‘Terre di Giumara’ estate, hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., 30% of the wine aged 4 months in tonneaux. 16.5+/20 Oct 2015 RRP$ 19.00
