Carrick ‘Unravelled’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 22-Feb-2014
Dark ruby-red colour with good depth and some garnet hues on edge. This has a softly concentrated and packed nose of black cherry fruit integrated with dark plum, soft earth and spicy liquorice notes, revealing lifted red floral elements in the glass. Medium-full bodied, fulsome, up-front and ripe dark berry fruit flavours meld with earthy notes and dusty liquorice elements. Moderately fine, grainy tannins and soft acidity provide a rounded backbone and mouthfeel. The palate has good weight and presence, and recedes to an open, fruity finish. This is a soft textured and densely packed Pinot Noir with dark fruits and earthy, liquorice notes. Serve with coq au vin and casseroles over the next 4-5 years. Clones 113, 114, 115, 667 and 777, from vines planted in 1995, destemmed, and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 15% new French oak barrels. 3,500 cases made. Certified BioGro organic. 17.5-/20 Feb 2014 RRP $27.50
