Carrick Death of Von Tempsky 2020, Central Otago

Rosé from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 17-Nov-2021
Hazy, deep, yellow with an apricot hue, even colour throughout. The nose is immensely fragranced, aromas of herb melded with dried flower, kumquat, preserved lime and earthy element. Full-bodied, dry to taste, the palate has a calming energy, integrated nuances of kumquat, preserved lime, clementine interweave dried yellow bouquet, a hint of zest, then unfolding sage and verbena. The fruit is vibrant, mellowed by a grip of ripe phenolics; balanced, zesty acidity linger and to a calming, harmonious, long finish. The wine has a red wine structure, supported by softened, matured acidity in a pure, unaltered form. Not for the faint-hearted. This is a highly aromatic on-skins-Riesling features citrus, dried flower, herb, flows with calm acidity and chewy phenolics. Recommend decanted and open-minded. Match with misto fritto di mare and crispy pork belly over the next 3-5 years. Handpicked Riesling, on-skins in a one-tonne fermenter for 170 days, 12.5% alc. Bottles unfined, unfiltered and without additions. BioGro organic certified. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Nov 2021 RRP $36
