Caravan Merlot 2019, South Eastern Australia

Merlot from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 24-Feb-2021
Deep, ruby-black, lighter edged. The nose is gently full, filled with toasty oak, nutmeg, vanilla, underlying vibrant red berries and plums. Full-bodied, succulent fruit of red berries and plums melded with toasty oak and lingering with oak spices. The fruit is upfront and juicy, supported by lively acidity; oak element added a supple, grainy tannin texture and some spice seasoning. This is an upfront, generously lush-fruited and balanced Merlot. Match with barbeque meat over the next 2-3 years. Fermented in a combination of rotary and head down fermenters for 7-9 days at 22 degrees, then pressed to new and old oak barrels to finish fermentation, aged in new and old French and American oak for further 8 months. 14.6% alc. 17/20 pts (85 pts) Feb 2021 RRP $25
