Cantine Colomba Bianca ‘Monte Nobile’ Sicilia Nero d’Avola IGT 2012

Other Red from Italy - Other
Review Date : 12-Jul-2013
Hand-picked Nero d’Avola fruit from 26 y.o. vines in the Trapani province of Sicily, tank-fermented to 14.0% alc. and 3.3 g/L rs, the wine aged 6 months in French oak. Even ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues on rim. The bouquet is elegant in proportion with ripe and lifted aromas of boysenberry and blueberry fruit aromas expressed with a degree of restraint. Subtle earthy undertones emerge in the glass. Medium-bodied, the palate features a core of ripe, primary, dark red berry and blueberry fruit flavours with some alcohol warmth and power adding richness and presence. A little earthy and savoury detail adds interest. The fruit is balanced by granular tannins and low acidity providing a dry, rounded mouthfeel and the flavours carry through to a long and sustained soft finish with sweet fruit notes. This is a textbook Nero d’Avola with ripe blue fruit flavours and a soft, textured mouthfeel. Match with roasted red meats and barbecued food over the next 4-5 years. 17.0/20 Jul 2013 RRP $19.99
