Cantina Mesa ‘Buio’ Carignano del Sulcis DOC 2011

Other Red from Italy - Other
Review Date : 24-Jul-2013
100% Carignan from Sulcis, fermented to 14.0% alc. and bottled without oak. Fullish, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red, a little lighter on rim. This has a soft and harmoniously up-front nose of boysenberry and blackberry jam along with earth, mineral and tarry notes. Medium-bodied, restrained flavours of juicy, ripe boysenberries and jam show whole berry fermentation characters. The fruit is supported by soft, grainy tannins and along with modest acidity delivers a rounded mouthfeel. The extraction builds and leads to a dry, textural finish with fruit sweetness providing some length. This is a soft-textured, harmoniously up-front, juicy and jammy Carignan from Sardinia. Match with grilled red meats and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4 years. 16.5+/20 Jul 2013 RRP $29.95
