Campo Viejo Rioja Tempranillo 2011

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 16-May-2014
Very dark, deep, black-hearted ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is light with aromas of fresh, primary dark red berry fruits , savoury raspberries and an earthy core, lifted by red floral notes. Medium-bodied, well-packed fruit flavours of dark raspberries, dark herbs and earth forming an up-front and robust core. The fruit is sweet, and encased by grainy, rustic tannin structure and cut by brisk acidity. The tannins lend a drying line that leads to a tight, textured finish. This is an up-front, raspberry and earthy flavoured Rioja with a grainy, dry mouthfeel. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 3+ years. 100% Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 12 days on skins and aged 4 months in American oak. 16.0+/20 May 2014 RRP $13.99
