Campo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2007

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 16-May-2014
Full, deep, black-hued garnet-red colour with some bricking on edge. This has a softly full, elegantly proportioned bouquet that opens in volume showing dark red berry fruits entwined with savoury cedar, earth, undergrowth and oak vanilla aromas that unfold with ethereal detail. Medium-full bodied and quite slender in expression, restrained and subtly sweet flavours of lifted red berry fruit are lifted by cedary and vanilla oak notes. The palate is underlined by fine-grained textures resulting in a smooth-flowing and dry mouthfeel to balance the tannins. The wine is gently carried to a moderately long finish with earth and vanilla nuances. This is an elegant Rioja Reserva with a sweet fruit and oak flavours balanced by dry structure. Serve with beef, lamb and hard cheeses over the next 4-5+ years. 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 20 days on skins and aged 18 months in American and French oak. 16.5+/20 May 2014 RRP $19.99
