Campo Viejo Rioja Gran Reserva 2005

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 16-May-2014
85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 20 days on skins and aged 24 months in 80% French and 20% American oak. Very full, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is softly concentrated and grows in volume, showing aromas of savoury, earthy, dark berry bruits harmoniously integrated with cedar and oak vanilla notes, along with sweet and aromatic leathery elements. Full-bodied and softly weighted, smooth and lusciously sweet flavours of savoury red fruits, spices, cedar and oak unfold in gentle and restrained waves. The flavours flow smoothly and follow a near seamless, very fine-grained tannin line. The palate grows in weight and structure and carries to a refined, dry finish. This is an elegant and harmonious Rioja Gran Reserva with interwoven flavours of savoury red fruits, cedar, spices and oak. Serve with slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 5+ years. 17.5+/20 May 2014 RRP $29.99
