Cambridge Road Martinborough Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 27-Mar-2012
This is the second Syrah from Cambridge Road. 90% MS clone Syrah with 10% Pinot Noir from the ‘Cambridge Road Home' block, vines 17 and 23 y.o., fully destemmed and fermented to 13.8% alc., with 30 days on skins. The wine was aged 15 months in 40% new oak, a new 500L puncheon. Very full, deep, dark ruby-red colour with a little garnet on edge. This has an elegant, intense and concentrated bouquet of black berry fruits with exotic spices and black pepper, with floral notes, complexed by sulphide reduction elements. Full-bodied, rich, ripe black berry and dark raspberry fruit flavours show with black pepper and reduction/oak char like flavours. This has a sweet core with fresh acidity and supple tannins from good extraction, which carries through to a long and densely packed, flavoursome finish. The sulphide reduction evident on nose is absorbed by the rich dark fruitiness. This rich and weighty Syrah will match roasted and grilled game meat over the next 6-8 years. 150 dozen made. 17.5+/20 Mar 2012 RRP $60.00
