Cambridge Road ‘Dovetail’ Martinborough Field Blend 2010

Blended Red from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 27-Mar-2012
Very full, deep, purple-ruby red colour, near saturated. The bouquet is intense and tight with penetrating aromas of black and dark red berry fruit interwoven with notes of game meat, black pepper, spices and minerals. Boysenberry fruit, and a touch of reductive complexity show. The intriguing bouquet wavers between Pinot Noir and Syrah. Full-bodied, the rich and concentrated flavours of dark berry fruits, spices, pepper and violet florals are sweet and bright. The palate features fine-grained, ripe tannins, and the wine has drive and line, and a long, elegant, fruit nuanced finish. 71.4% Pinot Noir, clones 5, Abel and 6, with 28.6% Syrah MS clone, all from the ‘Cambridge Road Home' vineyard, vines 19-24 y.o., fermented with 4% whole bunch to 14.4% alc., with 21-30 days on skins, the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak. This is a chameleon of a wine showing Pinot Noir and Syrah characters richly interwoven. Match with roast beef, lamb and game meat over the next 7-9+ years. 135 dozen made. 19.0-/20 Mar 2012 RRP $60.00
