Calrossie Vineyard Grand Reserve Pinot Noir 2015, Marlborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 15-May-2024
Moderately deep ruby-black with slight hints of garnet on the rim. The nose is enticing and rich, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry, medicinal herbs, spice, game and earthy undergrowth. Medium-bodied, aromas of black cherry, intermixed dried blackberry, strawberry, unfolding thyme, dried basil, black tea, cinnamon bark, liquorice, shiitake, game and notes of tobacco. A gentle entry with delicate weight and subtle tannins, unveiling dried herbs and spices layers. Integrated, lively acidity carries to linearity. This Pinot Noir is delicate yet powerful, harmoniously integrated featuring a silky palate with concentration and age developments. Match with tea-smoked duck and roasted pigeon over the next 5 years. The fruit was from Home vineyard in lower Awatere Valley planted in 2003, 100% destemmed, macerated in tank for three weeks, pressed to French oak barriques (25% new) for wild fermentation, then matured for nearly four years, racked to tank for a further three years. Unfined, unfiltered. Vegan friendly. 13.52% alc. 19/20 pts (95 pts) May 2024 RRP $50
