Calo Rioja Calificada Tempranillo 2010

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 20-Aug-2013
100% Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa, fermented to 13.5% alc., most of the wine aged, 3 months in French and American oak, with 20% aged 9 months in 1 y.o. French oak barriques. Dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, ruby on edge. This has an elegantly concentrated bouquet with ripe, dark plum and berry fruit aromas along with a garrigue herb-like underlay with complexing oak nuances of savoury, smoked meats. Medium-full bodied, sweetly lush and bright black berry and dark plum flavours are entwined with savoury herb, smoked meat and oak notes. The mouthfeel is succulent and possesses vitality with fresh acidity and a firm, fine-grained concentrated core is a feature. The palate has good line which leads to a very fine-textured, long, lingering, dry finish with spicy oak and plum fruit. This is succulent, finely concentrated and vibrant Rioja to match with roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5+/20 Aug 2013 RRP $24.99
