60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Carignan from schist soils, the Carignan undergoing semi-carbonic maceration, and fermented to 14.5% alc. Very full, saturated black-red colour with a suggestion of garnet on rim. The bouquet is full of rich, very ripe, vibrant black and dark red berry fruits along with herb lifted, violet floral nuances and some whole berry fermentation confectionary elements. Full-bodied, sweetly rich and aromatic fruit flavours of dark red, black and blue fruits show some raisin and jam notes along with an intriguing mix of minerals and florals. The succulent fruit has good vitality, with balanced, background acidity, and is tempered by fine-grained, soft, but well-extracted tannins. The structure carries the palate to an elegant, dry-textured finish. This is a elegantly presented, fine-grained, well-structured Saint Chinian with sweetly ripe fruit. Serve with roast lamb, beef or venison, and with hard cheeses over the next 6-8+ years. 17.5/20 May 2014 RRP $15.99
