Calmel & Joseph ‘Les Terroirs’ Faugeres 2011

Syrah from France - Other
Review Date : 27-May-2014
Very full, saturated black-red colour with purple hues. The nose has bright, dark raspberry and black fruit aromas lifted with floral and herb elements entwined with funky game and meaty notes which grow in presence with aeration. Full-bodied, the front palate has open, juicy and sweetly ripe black fruit flavours with raspberry liqueur, liquorice and minerals. Savoury game and meat flavours grow, along with fine, grainy tannin textures that build in presence. The wine follows a dry, firm line to a moderately sustained finish. This is a fulsome, ripe fruited Faugeres with funky, meat and game flavours and a firm, drying mouthfeel. Match with hearty game-based cuisine over the next 4-5 years. 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 20% Carignan, from schist and sandstone soils, the Grenache from 102 y.o. vines and the Carignan from 46 y.o. vines, fermented to 14.5% alc. 16.0+/20 May 2014 RRP $15.99
