Cable Bay Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 21-Jul-2014
Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Home’ block and ‘Edwards’ vineyard, WBP and fully barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months on lees in 32% French oak puncheons and barriques. Bright straw colour with slight green hues, lighter on rim. The nose is youthfully fresh with rich and voluminous aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits, with citrus elements along with complex nutty oak and minerally lees nuances, lifted vanilla and subtle creamy, butty elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a powerful and concentrated core of ripe yellow stonfruits with savoury citrus, and nutty, kernel-like oak flavours. This has real weight and mouthfilling presence, the fruit and oak quite textural in structure, balanced by subtle creaminess and lacy, lively acidity. The wine flows with grip and energy, leading to a very long, lingering finish. This is a powerful, dry and concentrated Chardonnay with complex stonefruit and nutty flavour interaction. Match with poultry, pork and white meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 18.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $40.00
