Cable Bay ‘Reserve’ Waiheke Island Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 13-Jun-2011
97% Syrah and 3% Viognier from the steep, north-facing ‘Edwards' vineyard at Church Bay, co-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine then aged 12 months in French oak barriques. Very dark, deep hearted ruby-red with black hues to the colour, this has a very fine and elegantly proportioned bouquet, still tightly bound but with real concentration. Black berry fruits, violetty florals, black pepper and minerals show with lovely purity. Toasty oak nuances add a layer of interest to the aromatics. On palate an very refined wine with real richness and lusciously ripened fruit that combined with bright acidity and very fine-grained tannins result in real elegance. The flavours of black fruits, florals, spices are nuanced and fill the mouth, yet the wine retains great finesse. Very long and nuanced on the finish. Serve with the finest cuts of red meat over the next 8-10 years. 19.0/20 Jun 2011 RRP $92.00
