Cable Bay ‘Limited Edition’ Waiheke Island Malbec/Merlot/Syrah 2011

Malbec from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 21-Jul-2014
A blend of 56% Malbec, 23% Merlot and 21% Syrah, fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak barriques. Dark, moderately deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned with up-front and bright aromas of black and red currant and plum aromas entwined with fresh herbs, mint and a little spicy pepper. Some dark red floral perfumes emerge in the glass. Medium-bodied, concentrated flavours of red berry fruit and herbs intermingle with spice, pepper and leafy elements. The mouthfeel is freshly textured, with grip, lively acid poise and energy. The palate is carried by a light, grainy tannin line, the acidity with a slipperiness enhancing the spice and peppery Syrah fruit, leading to a firm, crisp finish. This is an elegant Malbec, Merlot and Syrah blend with cooler spectrum fruit flavours and a grainy-textured, brisk mouthfeel and line. Match with herb marinated lamb and beef dishes over the next 4+ years. 16.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $38.00
