Cable Bay Awatere Valley Marlborough Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 30-May-2016
Bright, light golden-hued yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly packed and concentrated with subtle aromas of yellow stonefruit entwined with honeysuckle, florals and delicately lifted esters. Some nutty and mineral nuances emerge as the aromatics grow in depth and intensity. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the fruit flavours are reserved in expression, but the palate is rounded with good depth and presence. Flavours of yellow stonefruits, florals, honeysuckle and nutty, mineral elements unfold. The mouthfeel is soft, with a fine phenolic texture and line, the acidity quite integrated, adding to the weight. The wine leads to a gently flavoured finish of stonefruits and florals. This dry Pinot Gris is reserved in flavour, but unfolds with good weight and presence. Match with Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese fare over the next 3 years. Fruit from the ‘Rocky’ vineyard, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 14.0% alc. and dryness, the wine aged 5 months on light lees. 17.0/20 Jun 2016 RRP $23.00
