Moderate, deep ruby-black with good transparency, lighter purple-ish rim. The nose is poised and gently full; nuances of blackberries, black cherries interweave deep florals, dark herbs and a note of metallic soil. Medium-full bodied fragrant aromas of blackberries and cherries enriched by broody dark herbs, liquorice, unfolding violets and black peppercorns. The fruit has depth and concentration, appeared rich on the palate with breadth; dark herbs and florals fragrance are lingering, along with cinnamon and cloves spices. Silky palate with fine tannin extractions and lacy acidity contribute to the poised structure frame. This is a dark-fruited Pinot Noir with an elegant structure and intensity, adorned by herb and floral fragrances. Match with venison backstrap and lamb ribs over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from Butterworth's Julicher Vineyard on Te Muna Road, handpicked, destemmed, fermented to 13.5% alc, 20-25 days post-ferment maceration, aged in French oak barriques.
