Butterworth Te Muna Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2020, Martinborough

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 13-May-2022
Bright, even pale yellow with some depth. The nose is vibrant and distinctive, with aromas of pineapple, guava underlying citrus melded with herb and elegant barrel elements. Medium-bodied, juicy aromas of pineapple, guava and grapefruit unfolding basil, marzipan and barrel spice. Textural phenolics contribute to the weight and mouthfeel, compliments by vanilla and clove on the finish. Lively acidity drives freshness through the complex aromas to a refreshing finish. This elegant barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc has balanced barrel details, textural line, and a vibrant tropical core. Match with fish pie and roasted cauliflower steak over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from home block, fermented in older French oak barrel to 13% alc, left on gross lees without stirring for 12 months, further aged on lees in tank for 4 months. No fining, light filtration before bottling. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) May 2022 RRP $30
