Butterworth Layline Pinot Gris 2020, Martinborough

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 21-Apr-2021
Bright, pale yellow-gold, even colour throughout. The nose is attractive with a soft and dusty sweet fragrance of ripe Nashi pear, yellow apple and lychees, adorned by intense white florals and five-spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of lychees, Nashi pear and yellow apples have an elegant core; delicate five-spice melded with white florals linger to a crunchy apple finish. The wine flows beautifully with subtle powdery phenolic on a smooth, almost unctuous texture. Lively acidity balanced by a hint of sugar sweetness broadened the palate. This is a fragrant Pinot Gris with succulent fruit of lychees, Nashi and apples with subtle spices and floral on an unctuous palate. Match with five-spice chicken and pork siu mai over the next 3 years. Fermented in tanks to 12.5% alc. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Apr 2021 RRP $26
