Brown Brothers ‘18 Eighty Nine’ Victoria Merlot 2012

Merlot from Australia - Victoria
Review Date : 20-Nov-2014
Deep ruby-red colour with lighter garnet on rim. This has a moderately full nose of redcurrants, bramble and undergrowth, along with earth and tobacco elements, unveiling plum and chocolate-like nuances with aeration. Medium-full bodied, light savoury redcurrant, earth, dried herb and bramble fruit flavours form a fine-grained, firm line. The wine is beginning to show secondary development. There is acid cut and alcohol drive underlining the fruit, and the tannins grow to carry the wine to dry, light finish. This is an up-front Merlot with savoury undergrowth and earthy flavours, and a dry, textured line. Match with roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 3+ years. Merlot fruit from the company’s Heathcote vineyard supplemented with Beechworth grapes, fermented to 14.5% alc., a portion of the wine aged 12 months in 10% new French oak. 16.5-/20 Nov 2014 RRP $19.99
