Brookfields ‘Valley’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2016

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Dec-2017
Even, dark ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, a little lighter on edge and youthful in appearance. The nose is softly full with harmoniously interwoven aromas of blackcurrants and dark-red plums with redcurrants and fragrant herbal elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate has up-front flavours of ripe blackcurrants and dark-red plum fruit with subtle notes of dark herbs, spices and nutty oak suggestions. The fruit is sweet and juicy, and balanced by fine, grainy tannin extraction, with light, lacy acidity lending freshness and lift to the mouthfeel. The wine carries easily to a light, nuanced finish. This is an up-front, supple, juicy Cabernet/Merlot blend with blackcurrant and dark plum flavours on a fine, grainy-structured palate with good freshness. Serve with barbecued and grilled lamb and beef dishes over the next 4-5+ years. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Ohiti Valley and 50% Merlot from the Tuki Tuki Valley, fermented to 14.0% alc., the Cabernet Sauvignon aged 12 months in oak and the Merlot 6 months, all seasoned barrels. 17.5/20 Dec 2017 RRP $20.00 Export Only
