Brookfields Sun-dried Malbec 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Oct-2021
Full, deep ruby-red with a dark purple core, lighter on the rim. The nose is full and powerful, with bright aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis, plums, and violets entwined sweet spice of vanilla, nutmeg and cedar. Full-bodied, the palate is smooth, aromas of blackberries, cassis and plums are succulent, melded with a hint of violet, cedar and an amalgam of spice, lingering with dark herbs and liquorice roots. The palate is smooth with a good grip of powdery tannin extraction, reminiscent of dark cocoa. Bright acidity provides freshness and lengthens the wine to a velvety closing. This is a succulent Malbec with dark fruit flavours, bright acidity on a fine, powdery tannin mouthfeel. Match with meat grill and black beans over the next 8+ years. Malbec was sourced from Tuki Tuki Valley and Ohiti Estate, handpicked, sun-dried on trays, fermented in open tanks, hang plunged, aged in one to two-year-old French oak barrels. Vegan friendly. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Sept 2020 RRP $27
