Brookfields ‘Ohiti Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Oct-2016
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is a little restrained in expression and tightly bound with focussed aromas of blackcurrant fruit along with soft notes of cassis, with mint and dark herb notes, and a hint of minerally reduction. Medium-full bodied, the palate is fine in proportion and firmly bound with a tight core of blackcurrants, cassis, mint and herbs, and a suggestion of leaf. The fruit has clarity and is supported by grainy tannin extraction and structure lending a dry mouthfeel. The acidity is fresh and integrated and the wine flows with linearity to a long, lingering finish of blackcurrants, cassis and herbs. Somewhat shy on nose, this is a focussed, linear Cabernet Sauvignon with blackcurrant, cassis and herb flavours on a fresh, grainy, firm palate. Match with herb-marinated lamb, beef and venison over the next 4-5 years. The ‘Ohiti Estate’ is inland on the bed of the old Ngaruroro river. Fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins 3 weeks and aged in French and American oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Oct 2016 RRP $21.00
