Brookfields ‘Marshall Bank’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Oct-2016
Brilliant light golden-hued yellow colour, paler on the rim. The nose is full, broad and voluminous with seamless layers of ripe citrus and tropical fruits, melded with yellow stonefruits, mealy and nutty elements, and waves of creamy barrel-ferment entwined with lemon-curd MLF nuances. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and luscious, with bright and lively, mouthfilling flavours of citrus and tropical fruits enriched by creamy barrel-ferment and subtle nutty and lemon-curd MLF layers. The wine is smooth and seamless flowing harmoniously, driven by some underlying alcoholic drive, the wine carrying with lacy acid tension. The palate leads to a long and sustained finish with creamy barrel notes and citrus fruit flavours. This is a rich and luscious Chardonnay with freshness alongside smooth stonefruit and creamy, nutty oak and MLF notes. Match with roast pork over the next 5 years. Named after an old family property in West Otago, the fruit here coming from the ‘Ohiti’ estate fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 50% new French oak barriques with batonnage, and 10% MLF. 18.5+/20 Oct 2016 RRP $32.00
