Deep, ruby-red with a dark-purple core, lighter purple on the rim. The nose is elegant and pure, gently full with aromas of red plums, ripe strawberries, cherries entwined with vanilla, herbs, black pepper and a hint of graphite. Medium-full bodied, juicy fruit aromas of plums, cherries have purity, enriched by medical herbs, black pepper, vanilla and cedar barrel elements, lingers with graphite minerals. The fruit is pure and succulent; beautiful oak use adorns vanillin, cedar spices and fine-grained, velvety tannin with a refined yet firm grip, along with a creamy flow, the wine draws a lengthy finish. This elegant Syrah is expressed with pure fruit, opulent oak and graphite minerals, and a well-rounded, refined mouthfeel. Match with herb-crusted lamb and veal chops over the next 8+ years. Syrah from Hillside vineyard, mainly clone 470 with a portion of MS clone, destemmed, crushed, fermented in close fermentation tanks to 13.5% alc, underwent MLF then racked to new French oak, aged for 18 months. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Sept 2021 RRP $47
