Brookfields ‘Hillside’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Dec-2014
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues on rim. The nose is full and voluminous with aromas of ripe black berry fruits gently intermixed with exotic Asian and Middle Eastern spices, black pepper, and violetty florals, revealing dusty, earthy interest and oak. The aromatics build in intensity with aeration. Medium-full bodied, this has a tight core of ripe black berry fruits and pepper which unfolds, becoming plush and rich. Harmonious layers of complexing exotic spices, florals, oak toast and earth fill the palate. This is refined and elegantly concentrated, flowing smoothly, and the wine had excellent powdery tannins supporting the fruit that carry the flavours to a very long and sustained, spicy and aromatic finish. This is an elegantly rich, fine-grained Syrah with harmonious layers of black fruits and aromatic spices. Match with slow cooked game meat over the next 7-9+ years. Fruit from the ‘Hillside’ vineyard, Bridge Pa, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak barriques. 19.0-/20 Dec 2014 RRP $45.00
