Brookfields Barrique Fermented Viognier 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Sep-2021
Bright, pale straw-yellow with depth, even colour throughout. The nose is delicate and gentle, pure and elegant aromas of peach, pear slowly opening up with white florals, subtle toastiness and flint. Medium-full bodied, aromas of peach, apricot, pear and citrus interweave caramel, vanilla, toast and alluring white florals. The mouthfeel is poised and structured; fine-textured phenolic is almost chalky. It flows with a subtle creaminess supported by lacy and balanced acidity. Spices linger on the finish and left it moreish. This is an elegant and structured Viognier with pristine fruit and barrel-fermentation complexity in harmony. Match with roasted pork and baked fish over the next 6+ years. Fruit from Ohiti Estate handpicked, whole bunch pressed, fermented in a mix of new French oak and near new barriques to 14% alc, left on its lees for 10 months in barrels. Vegan friendly. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Sept 2021 RRP $27
