Brookfields ‘Back Block’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Oct-2016
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim and youthful in appearance. The nose is softly concentrated with deep aromas of blackberry fruit lifted by white and black pepper, dark red florals, revealing notes of savoury dark herbs with game and mineral detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is juicy and up-front with flavours of blackberries and dark raspberries, along with subtle notes of black and white pepper and dark-red florals. The fruit forms a deep, rounded core and is supported by fine-grained tannin structure and lively acidity which lends the mouthfeel plenty of energy. The flavours carry to a lingering, juicy finish of dark raspberries, pepper and spice. This is a rich and juicy, lively fruited Syrah with blackberry and raspberry fruit along with pepper, florals and spices on a fine-grained, fresh palate. Match with lamb and venison, and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the hot and north-facing ‘Back Block’ of the company’s ‘Ohiti’ vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending at least 2 weeks on skins with limited oak maturation. 17.5+/20 Oct 2016 RRP $21.00
