Brokenwood Hunter Valley Shiraz 2010

Syrah from Australia - NSW
Review Date : 06-Oct-2014
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black-red hues, a little lighter on rim. The bouquet is firmly concentrated with well-packed and complex aromas of earthy black fruits, savoury game meat, black pepper, iron and minerals, unfolding black pepper notes with aeration. Medium-full bodied and with an elegance of proportion, concentrated flavours of black and red berry fruits are intermixed with savoury plum, game and earthy notes that unfold in layers. The palate features fine, rainy tannins and brisk acidity, lending a vigorous mouthfeel and plenty of drive. Complex black pepper, Middle Eastern spices and liquorice emerge and carry through to a receding finish with earth, pepper and liquorice elements.. This is an elegantly proportioned, complex and savoury Shiraz with a robust texture and energy. Match with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 6-9+ years. Clonal Shiraz fruit from the ‘Graveyard Vineyard’ from vines planted in the 1990s with declassified old vine material, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in American oak barriques. 18.0+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $39.95
