Brightwater Vineyards ‘Lord Rutherford’ Nelson Barrique Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 04-Oct-2016
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. This has a full and gently rich bouquet, a little restrained in expression, revealing aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits entwined with creamy, nutty barrel-ferment notes, subtle flint and mineral nuances and layers of lemon-curd MLF. Medium-full bodied, the palate is firm with a concentrated core of ripe yellow stonefruits melded with creamy barrel-ferment elements and complexing nutty, oxidative notes and subtle nuances of flint and minerals. The wine follows a firm and fine-textured phenolic line, and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh acidity. This has vitality and linearity, and the wine carries to a tightly bound, dry, textural, and sustained finish. This is a firm and tightly concentrated, youthful Chardonnay with white stonefruit and citrus flavours complexed by creamy and nutty notes, finish firm and dry. This will open up and develop richness over the next 4-5+ years. Serve with grilled and roasted white meat dishes. A single vineyard wine, clone 15, Mendoza and 6 fruit, hand-picked and fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months on lees in 25% new French oak barriques, with 100% MLF. 18.5-/20 Oct 2016 RRP$40.00
