Bridge Pa ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Apr-2012
Full, moderately deep ruby-red colour. This has a very full nose of ripe dark fruits, black pepper, and Asian spices with oak cedar, all softly interwoven, revealing complex secondary game and earth elements in the glass. Full-bodied, the palate is fulsome and open in expression packed with dark berry, plum and peppery fruit flavours along with liquorice, game, spice and cedar notes. The wine is mouthfilling, mellow and near seamless, with very fine-grained tannins, and discreet acidity underling the flow and providing good tension. The balance and integration is a feature, as is the soft, long and spicy finish. Match this smooth textured, well-integrated spicy Syrah with slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 4-6+ years, Fruit from own-rooted vines from the ‘Bridge Pa' vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. 18.5-/20 Apr 2012 RRP $40.00
