The first release of a varietal Merlot bottling. 89.3% Merlot and 10.7% Malbec fermented to 12.7% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 17% new French oak. Full, deep, dark ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is elegant and slender in proportion with finely expressed aromas of savoury red berry and plum fruit, harmoniously integrated with secondary layers of chocolate, earth and spices, unfolding fragrant, cedary oak. Medium-bodied and well-proportioned, the palate features bright and sweet red berry and plum fruit flavours alongside subtle earth and spice notes and cedary oak. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction, and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. This has good tension, energy and linearity, and the wine carries to a long and sustained finish of sweet, savoury and spicy plum flavours. This is an elegant, fine-structured Merlot with spicy plum and cedary oak flavours. Serve with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $30.00
