Dark ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is soft, broad and fulsome in expression with integrated secondary aromas of savoury red berry fruits intermixed with game, leather and cedar, along with undergrowth and earthy notes. Medium-full bodied, robust and near-rustic flavours of savoury red fruits, earth and leather are entwined with dried herb and gamey elements. The fruit is up-front and has good sweetness, and the palate is framed by grainy tannin structure. As the wine flows, the flavours recede to a light, savoury, dried herb and tobacco nuanced finish. This is a robust, grainy blended red with savoury secondary development. Match with barbecued fare and casseroles over the next 3-4 years. A blend of the components not utilised for the ‘Pharos’ and varietal bottlings. 60.8% Merlot, 17.48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.45% Cabernet Franc and 7.26% Malbec, fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine aged 9 months in seasoned oak. 16.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $26.00
