Brancott Estate ‘Letter Series – O’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Nov-2015
Clone 95 fruit hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast fermented in French oak barriques to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in 40% new oak, the wine undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. Bright, even straw-yellow colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full, broad and densely packed with aromas of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits melded with a deep core of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak. Layers of complexing toasty oak, lemon-curd and butterscotch MLF, along with oxidative elements blossom in the glass. Medium-full bodied, full and bold flavours of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits are complexed by layers of creamy, nutty and toasty oak and rich butterscotch and lemon-curd MLF flavours. The richness is balanced by soft acid freshness, and the wine has underlying energy and tension. The wine flows with good power and linearity, leading to a densely packed, rich and fine-textured, lingering finish of creamy, nutty oak. This is a full, bold and richly flavoured Chardonnay with citrussy fruit, nutty oak and creamy, butterscotch MLF layers. Serve with roast pork and grilled white meats over the next 4-5 years. 18.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $33.20
