Brancott Estate ‘Identity’ Wairau Valley Marlborough Chardonnay 2018

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Sep-2018
Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-gold hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is softly expressed with broad aromas of fresh citrus fruits and stonefruits along with some spicy, nutty oak and a little smoke. The nose shows some chalky mineral interest. Medium-full bodied, th palate has light but layered flavours of citrus fruit intermingling with white and yellow stonefruits along with some spicy, nutty oak. The flavours are up-front and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh acidity. The wine flows with good energy and tension, the flavours receding a little as the wine carries with some underlying alcoholic power to a light finish. This is a light, layered Chardonnay with up-front flavours of stonefruit and citrus fruit with nutty oak on a fresh, bright palate. Match with seafood and poultry dishes over the next 3 years. Clones 95, Mendoza and 6 from the company’s ‘Renwick’ and ‘Brancott’ vineyards, vines planted in 1991 and 1992, fermented in stainless-steel with 17% in French oak foudres to 13.5% alc., the wine undergoing batonnage and 100% MLF. 17.0/20 Sep 2018 RRP $21.99
