Boutique Wine Co. ‘Old Vine’ McLaren Vale Shiraz 2009

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 09-Aug-2012
Fruit from the McLaren Vale, vines 65 y.o., fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 22 months in American and French oak, approx. 20% new. Very full, impenetrable black-red colour with slight garnet hues on edge. Fresh, full, ripe aromas of black berries, plums, Asian spices and cedar show with an ethereal lift. Medium-full bodied, this has elegantly concentrated flavours of sweetly ripe black plums and liquorice with chocolate, black pepper and some eucalypt. Good oaking adds a spiciness to the flavour profile. A fine tannin line underscores the fruit and with restrained acidity, the flavours have good drive which leads to a refined, grainy, dry finish with very good length. This is a concentrated and refined, ripe flavoured Shiraz with fine textures and structure. Match with spicy Asian duck and Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 224 cases made. 18.0/20 Aug 2012 RRP $20.50
