Bousquet des Papes ‘Chante le Merle’ Chateauneuf du Pape 2005

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 03-Sep-2011
This is dark, deep garnet-red in colour, showing some mahogany hues. The bouquet is full and voluminous with aromas of plums, fruit-cake, autumnal fruits and florals and complex warm earth, game and cedar notes. A fulsome, rich and fleshy wine, this is open and nearing broad, showing ripe dark red berry fruits, liquorice and spice flavours, quite rounded in structure, but with significant tannin extraction. Subtle, sweet fruit cake and cedar nuances mark the finish. The wine is one of size and sweet, suppleness, a little low in acidity, but with the balance to keep another 8-10 years easily.  Aug 2011
